Project Skerries

Old Victorian Revival| Extensive Building Work and Design

This project required lots of vision and imagination due to its condition when we started. There was no heating or electricity but it had amazing potential and great bones.

The plan was always to revive the old house to its original glory reinstating the windows, panels, fireplaces and cast iron radiators.

For the extension, the thought process was envisioned to have a different feel yet somehow ensure the two worked seamlessly together. For the extension it was about creating a highly functional space with lots of light and storage whilst offering an indoor/outdoor lifestyle with large glass doors and a veranda facing the house to capture the sunlight.

Lots of time was spent sourcing and visiting salvage yards to really capture the heritage of the old house while at the same time giving it all the modern comforts. This project has turned out to be an amazing transformation and is now a cosy yet stylish family home.

What the client said.....

For a long time, Rachel helped to design new spaces for family, friends and friends of friends as her hobby but finally decided to take the plunge full time. Red Island is unique because by getting to know our clients, we can work with their budget to create their dream space. We love to mix old and new and take great pride in upcycling kitchens and furniture. It is a privilege to be asked to help someone make their house a home or indeed to recreate their existing home.
